MY HUBBY READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE AMISH GROWING CORN AND THEY SAID SOMETHING ABOUT DE-TASSELING THE CORN WHILE IT WAS GROWING.  HE WANTED TO KNOW WHAT THE BENEFITS OF THAT WOULD BE ?  iF ANYONE REMEMBERS THAT ARTICLE OR KNOWS ABOUT THAT PROCESS, I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFO . THANKS

Hullo!

This was a job that I enjoyed very much while growin' up on my uncle's Amish farm.  My uncle would hold a work bee for the youth in our district and we would come together and spend the day detasselin' corn.  This was also a gut excuse to spend time in conversation with my special friend at that time, Jonas, whom I oft worked side-by-side with.  ;)  But enough about that, I shall proceed with tellin' you why we the Amish "detassel" corn:

Detasselin' corn is the process of pullin' out the tassels found at the top of the "male" corn.  This would assure the corn from fertilizin' the "female" corn, which was most often planted in a nearby row.

Does this help with your question?  I hope it was helpful to ya!
