I like to use pears when baking a ham. One masterpiece for a Christmas dinner was a whole ham, cooked,then deboned, sliced with pear slices placed between each ham slice. Magnificent!

I've found a tree to pick in a residential area, just loaded with hundreds of pears. I'm looking forward to a peary nice winter!

You can also make pear butter - like apple butter.  Pear preserves are good as well.  And if I remember correctly, I also made pear chutney years ago that the family loved!

My mother used to make a variation of pineapple upside down cake with pears.  It was a dark cake----spice, molasses, or gingerbread-----forget which, but it was wonderful with the pears.   Also, she canned pear halves----some regular, but some with cinnamin or cloves-----with red or green coloring added----to be used on festive occasions during  the winter.  Have no recipes, just wonderful memories.   ~CS~

They are good cooked in a skillet with a little butter and brown sugar, then sprinkled with cinnamon.  YUM!
