Where is the Amish Cook?
Why isn't the Amish Cook column in any Chicagoland newspapers? I find it only in the Northewest Indiana Times, and that's only because a relative lives in Crown Point and save each article for me. I love it.Why not put it in a local paper, even the Bremen Messenger? I love the quaint and easy and homey feeling I get when I read about Lovina's family and I enjoy her recipes. Please try to get it in a local paper. Thanks.
Re: Where is the Amish Cook?
Kevin, I like to see the column in newsprint also, but our Fairborn Daily News butchers Lovina's column so badly, I usually read it online as well as in the paper. I guess there's not always enough space to run Lovina's entire column in our paper, so they edit it quite a bit. Lately, they haven't even posted the recipe at the bottom. Glad I'm able to read the entire column online, thanks to you! ~Diann
Re: Where is the Amish Cook?
Sheesh, I hate it when a newspaper editor takes a carving knife to the column.....But what you describe is simply symptomatic of what is happening at newspapers in general....As people slowly quit reading newspapers, advertisers then leave, which shrinks the paper, which forces editors to put out a poor product, which then drives more readers away, which then drives more advertisers away, and the cycle just keeps repeating itself...SIGH, in some markets we'll be lucky to have any paper left at all in a few years......
Re: Where is the Amish Cook?
Thanks for the post, Ruth. In Chicagoland The Amish Cook is only in the Times of NW Indiana. The Kankakee Journal also runs The Amish Cook. Both papers circulate in the south Chicago `burbs. I can't just "put" the column in newspapers. Believe me, if it were that easy it'd be in 1200 newspapers as opposed to 120. But let me use Ruth's post as a "teaching moment" for anyone interested in seeing The Amish Cook in your local paper....Editors are FAR, FAR more likely to listen to you, one of their readers, than me - a faraway editor. For instance, if Ruth would call the Bremen Messenger herself and request the column....the chance of the paper adding The Amish Cook is much, much greater than if I just call him up. And, if all else fails, you can read the column here each week....but as great as the internet is, I still like to see it in newsprint as opposed to online......
