Lovina and Kevin How To videos

I had a neat idea. How about  "how to...." videos staring Lovina's hands and Kevin's voice. Examples: how to cook, how to sew/quilt, how to garden, how to harness a horse, how to bake (make pie crust, etc.)

I got this from the "breakfast at Lovina's" video where Elizabeth's hands are visable. Lovina could demonstrate and Kevin could narrorate.

Just a thought,

Visit to Dalton, WI bakery and grocery stores with son Adam

Son Adam and I had a very nice day yesterday. We went to Pleasant View Bakery, Mishler's and A&E Grocery Store, near Dalton, WI. It was his first time to come with me and his first time to meet Amish people. He was struck with how calm and friendly they are. Esp Mr. Mishler who had my wallet that fell off the roof of my car and was recovered by one of his neighbors. Mr. Mishler and I laughed about my silliness in losing it. He said, with a big smile, "as soon as I saw your face in the window, I knew what you came for since we saw your picture in the wallet."  Son Adam had already sampled some of the bakery items, so was not surprised at how yummy they were, just impatient to partake in some of them.

We had a nice ride home. He talked about how friendly and warm the Amish people are, that we talked with. I was very impressed at how respectful and polite he was, a rather typical rap-listening, video game playing,  rumspringa type teenager. Sealed

Thank you Adam for going with me and creating such wonderful memories. Smile

09/15/2010 Poll

I want to mention, the second question about what our favourite part of The Amish Cook. That was difficult for me to answer since I like both learning about receipts and Lovina and her family.

One suggestion I have is for cooking videos by Lovina or daughter Elizabeth. What I mean is showing cooking/baking like daughter Elizabeth is doing in The Amish Cook TV video on Breakfast at Lovina's when she is frying some eggs. The scene where we see daughter Elizabeth's coloured bracelet.

CarylAnne's Door Co trip and Civil War quilt

Here is a link to my webshots. I have uploaded photos that I took while in Door Co. I worked a lot on the Civil War quilt that I asked for advice on about hand quilting. I decided to hand quilt. Since getting home, I have attached the back and started the quilting process. Luckily I have until December to complete it.

Another album on my Webshots is photos of recipes I have tried from The Amish Cook's cookbooks. it was fun to try them and photograph them.

quilting question

Hi, I am working on making a quilt. it is made out of War Between The States reproduction fabric.  the pattern is my version of what The US Sanitary Commission gave out to Union Soldiers. I am sewing this  quilt on Olga, my Pfaff 1939 treadle machine.

My question is whether to hand quilt or machine quilt. I spoke with a young lady at the Amish bakery near Dalton, WI. and she said that their group always hand quilted. I asked her why and she couldn't come up with an answer. I got the idea that they always did it that way. Oh and she is from a conservitive Old Order community.

Anyway, I wonder if Lovina or any one else would have any ideas on this. I am willing to hand quilt the quilt and could machine quilt too. I know how to do free motion quiltin on treadles w/o dropping feed dogs. :-) which ever way would be best.

CarylAnne
