Interesting Article About Iowa Mennonites

This is a good, substantive article about the Mennonites in Iowa who are being accused of ruining roads with their steel wheel tractors and farm equipment.  Most of the articles I have linked to just sort of gives the newsy aspect of the story, but this feature really gives the "human side" of the area's Mennonite settlement.  Click here to read.  Let's hope they settle this soon!

Re: Interesting Article About Iowa Mennonites

This is so silly. If they were driving the tractors continuously(like a car),perhaps the wheels would gouge the road surface. I am betting the tractor use is only occasional, therefore I doubt it does much damage. We use 2 farmall tractors and both have chains on the rear tires. It doesn't hurt the road to drive between the outbuildings, barns, or fields. You are not traveling more than 5 or 10 mph., and only on an occasional basis. Speeding cars do way more damage. This newspaper article is a nice change of pace. It is good to see that someone is finding the good side of these Mennonite farmers, rather than a minor fault that some seem to want to turn into a battle.
