I might be wrong about this, but 20 years ago I don't think Colorado had any "plain presence." The past decade, though, the state seems to have an increasing population of Amish and Mennonites. Depending on where in the state, land can be relatively inexpensive and there is room to pursue various economic pursuits without bumping up against too many worldly ways. The Daily Press in Craig, Colorado did a superb article this morning about a visit with a conservative Mennonite family. I like the reporter's approach of just sort of focusing in on this one family and the interactions in the household. So many of these articles (and I'm not necessarily saying the reporters are deliberately doing this) are just so "us vs. them." This article, though, really takes the reader into the area's tiny Mennonite community and reminded me of all the things I found appealing about Amish and Mennonites in the first place. Plus a neat photo with the article! Click here to read the story.

Re: Colorado Mennonites
Every time a family such as the Yoders {and Duggars} are interviewed and their way of life makes it into the main stream media, I do a little cheer! There are so many families quietly living Godly lives, that aren't routinely in the media- they are too boring for they world! I do agree that larger families are more exciting, not out of spite or anything like that, there is just more activity happening in a home with more children. Conservative Christian families come in all sizes, some may have no children, some may have many.
Re: Colorado Mennonites
What a beautiful family and well written article.
I read the comments at the bottom of the article and someone was upset by the fact she said a small family is boring. Why do a lot of people look for negative statements instead of looking at the positive? We are blessed with one loving and great son and I wouldn't trade that for all the money in the world. ( He is also my tech support for computer problems
). And now we have lovely daughter-in-law who we love dearly.
Re: Colorado Mennonites
i also came from a family of 8 children, with me being the oldest...you can imagine what fun i had when it came to sharing clothes with 4 sisters in the house..but i wouldn't give it up for the world. i just love all of the neice's and nephew's that i have to spoil.
Re: Colorado Mennonites
A very fine article! I also enjoyed all of the thumbnail photos, they have a beautiful home as well as a beautiful family!!
Re: Colorado Mennonites
Yes, Barb, thanks for reminding folks. Those photos in the thumbnail gallery are absolutely gorgeous, fascinating insight into a typical "plain" Mennonite family....these are conservative Mennonites, they are not Old Order....
Re: Colorado Mennonites
Very well written article on the Yoder's, thank you for passing it on Kevin. It appears the family lives quite well.
