I have made it fresh when I have tomatoes.  This year doesn't look to be a bumper crop though.  You'll love this,  I buy the big cans of Hunt's pasta sauce when it is on sale!  Used to be 88 cents a can, now I think it is $1.  I freeze the leftover sauce for later use.  It comes in lots of flavors, I like the "meat" type, then I can use the sauce with pasta and save on using fresh meat.
