The Amish Cook from Oasis Newsfeatures

<DOUBLE-SIGH> I Shouldn't, But Oh What the Heck......

There are plenty of good blogs out there about the Amish (I hope mine is oneWink).   There is Erik Wesner's wonderfully informative www.amishamerica.com and one of our site regulars has a nice Amish-themed blog at http://itswonderfulgood.blogspot.com/2010/02/mesimplified.html .So I hate to give attention to a blog that I DON'T think makes the grade, but, what the heck, you gotta have a little fun sometimesSmile.  Someone called my attention to this blog.  Take a look at it!  Sheesh....now, really, one of the joys of the internet is that it allows a person to just do as they please.  There's no law against creating a fictional blog that is an enjoyable read and that is what I would characterize Rebekah's blog - fiction.  I just don't buy a word of it.   Read the "about me" section...Rebekah confesses to:  "sneaking to the barn and blog during milking hours."  It's funny, but - in my opinion - it's fiction.  What is even funnier is when people believe that something like this is real (Rebekah has a list of "followers", I pray they are just people who enjoy funny fiction).   There are a gazillion reasons I think the blog is contrived, but diction is one.  Some people over compensate when trying to replicate an "Amish voice", by sprinkling in phrases like "gut"..."ja"....and other stuff...things that a typical Amish person just wouldn't say in the course of conversation.  On the other hand, this blog just sound too sterile...it just doesn't ring true. What do you think?  Star cake anyone?

Re: <DOUBLE-SIGH> I Shouldn't, But Oh What the Heck......

I think the blog is supposed to be fiction. The blogger's profile says she is a real estate agent and likes Duncan Sheik and the Bare Naked Ladies. SHe also lists a ton of movies that she enjoys. The blogger is just being "creative"; I don't think she means for readers to interpret her writing as autobiographical.

Re: <DOUBLE-SIGH> I Shouldn't, But Oh What the Heck......

I think maybe this person has no life..other than pretending to be something she's not.

Re: <DOUBLE-SIGH> I Shouldn't, But Oh What the Heck......

all I can say is she must be really bored and have a lot of time on her hands

Yes, I agree that "Rebecka" blog that you referred to is rediculous!

Re: <DOUBLE-SIGH> I Shouldn't, But Oh What the Heck......

I missed the "profile" of the writer...based in Utah....had I even noticed that I doubt would have even posted about her blog, it's clearly fiction....

Re: <DOUBLE-SIGH> I Shouldn't, But Oh What the Heck......

Thanks Kevin for the wonderful kind words about my blog... http://www.itswonderfulgood.blogspot.com.  I take care in my postings so as not to offend my Amish and non-Amish friends alike.  Yeah, I know my how will my Amish friends ever know what I write... well word would get around so I am always careful to uphold their image with the utmost respect like you do with Lovina.   I am here to promote you in anyway.  I love the Amish Cook and all it stands for.  God bless all of you!

Re: <DOUBLE-SIGH> I Shouldn't, But Oh What the Heck......

I do like the itswonderfulgood site.  Did you noticed they gave you a rave review on The Amish Cook's Baking Book  in the March 10 installment?  I know you are too humble to bring this to our attention.  They made the pat a pan crust and vinegar pie.

Re: <DOUBLE-SIGH> I Shouldn't, But Oh What the Heck......

Well here is my opinion.  I think this is just a spoof of The Amish Cook.  Even the kids ages are about the same as Lovina and Joe's. She tries to hard to talk like the Amish, which is not very flattering on her part.  I wonder if she knows anything about them.  She's just a "copy cat".

Re: <DOUBLE-SIGH> I Shouldn't, But Oh What the Heck......

Sheesh, I'd say this lady has waaaaay too much time on her hands if she is copying us!:)

Re: <DOUBLE-SIGH> I Shouldn't, But Oh What the Heck......

Isn't that the best form of flattery?

Re: <DOUBLE-SIGH> I Shouldn't, But Oh What the Heck......

I guess I just don't understand how someone can pretend to be something they aren't- why not just share who you really are?

Re: <DOUBLE-SIGH> I Shouldn't, But Oh What the Heck......

This person has many blogs, most of which are in LDS speakeese, some one has a lot of time on their hands!  The profile, says EmmaP is in title escrow, in Utah.  I wouldn't waste my time on this one.

Re: <DOUBLE-SIGH> I Shouldn't, But Oh What the Heck......

i'm going to be honest in saying that i have had slim to no contact with the amish. i just recently found out that there is an amish community just 45 minutes away from my home that i can't wait to visit. i live in mongomery, ohio near bethesda north hospital, i'm sure kevin knows where this is. it seems to be someone who is just looking for some much needed attention and will go to any means to get it. i DO know that the amish would NOT be blogging in the barn while milking the cows. also, i saw the last name of COBLENTZ in the blog...i think the woman's name was SUSAN KAY. maybe lovina and joe can help out with that one. kevin, i just don't think that this blog is a true amish woman's idea of how to spend her off time.

Yes, the Utah thing was something else I had noticed.

Re: <DOUBLE-SIGH> I Shouldn't, But Oh What the Heck......

Well, a few things I noticed are the picture on the bottom right that says about me - it certainly doesn't look like an Amish woman to me & even the fact there is a picture.  Then if you click on it - it takes you to a profile page for EmmaP - but she says her name is Rebekah Susan in her genealogy section.  So that doesn't coincide.  But I have put it on my blog list to read for a while & see what she comes up with.  To me also, the fact she keeps adding "here" to things she is writing also doesn't ring true from my fairly extensive experience with the Amish around here.
