Cabbage from the garden.

Since getting our little plot of land at the back of our house at the start of the year, so far we've had peas, onions and some potatoes on our plates! We have lots more potatoes planted and we also have pumpkins, corn, curly kale, tomatoes, parsnips, peppers and the cabbage growing, that although isn't fully gown I couldn't resist cutting some for dinner today. I was about to buy some when I was shopping during the week and then thought, hey we have our own cabbage growing!! Its the savoy type of cabbage which I love. Cant wait to taste it, I got a pot full from the one cabbage we cut. We're having it with bacon and roast potatoes. Yum yum pigs bum cabbage and potatoes LOL.

Its a learning experience for us growing our own vegetables, so far we have made a few mistakes. We had a disaster with our carrots because we plated them too close together and they didn't grow very well, my red onions didn't grow well either and we have planted some things without enough space. Next year we will know better and hopefully have better growth, suppose you learn from your mistakes.

I love to cook and bake!

I love to make good home cooked foods for my family. Cooking has been a passion of mine for many years. Since the time I started to wean my first son, whos now 15, I loved to try out different recipes. Now Ive got 4 men in the house to feed and I still enjoy cooking for them just as much. I could happily spend a day in the kitchen baking bread, making cookies and doing dinner too, just to see the sheer enjoyment my family gets from eating what I make. The only problem is I find so many other things get in the way of cooking. There always seems to be something else that needs doing out of the house in this busy urban lifestyle. Then it ends up that I have to use foods I would rather not just for convenience. I suppose its a matter of getting a good balance and being more organised. Over the next few weeks I'm going to try my best not to buy store bought bread or cookies and I'm going to get going on making up my own home made bread(Lovina's Recipe of course Smile) that I will then store in the freezer to use as we need. This week when I went grocery shopping I didn't buy cookies/biscuits because I had already made a batch of 'Ranger cookies', kids really enjoyed them and there is still plenty left for the next couple of days. Going to make choc chip cookies next!! Feeling hungry now LOL.
